New hair revealed: going back to my roots!

Well... I said I had been thinking about it and once I get an idea into my head it's hard to stop myself! For the past six years I have spent a small fortune getting blonde highlights and having them done every 4 to 6 weeks and I felt like it was time for a change. I love being blonde and I think it suits me but six years is a long time and I think I'm going to stick with my natural hair colour for a while.

I'm really pleased with it and I don't feel it has washed my complexion out too much. It's such a close match to my natural colour too!

Let me know what you think! :) xx

Monday summary

Did you all have a good weekend? I hope so. I got absolutely no sleep at all last night and now I'm like a zombie with bags under my eyes :( Here's my list of 5 good things; let me know what yours are!

1) Plans to change my hair colour. I'm naturally a dark brown colour but I've been blonde for years and years now and I fancy a change. Plus it's so expensive and time consuming committing to a bright blonde! I'm going to have a good think before I commit to anything, but it's only hair isn't it! It grows and it can be changed back :)

2) I had a nice weekend full of watching movies and browsing antiques. More details on this in a blog post coming soon! I visited some really cool places in Yorkshire and took lots of photos so I'm going to share them with you.

3) LOST is back and it's my favourite tv programme! So confusing yet so addictive. I have stuck with it all these years and I'm hoping for some answers asap! Boone's back and I'm not complaining. Are you a fan or did you give up on it years ago? I lost my way a few series ago but caught up and I'm still going with it!

4) I'm going to attempt some baking this week - I'm thinking banana bread sounds cool or some muffins. This could be a disaster! I'm not the most advanced in the kitchen.. but how hard can it be!? :)

5) After months of temping I actually had a successful interview last week and I will hear the outcome this week!

I'll leave you with this thought...

Review: Aveeno Hand Cream & Moisturising Creamy Oil

I was sent a couple of items from Aveeno for reviewing purposes and I've been busy trying them out. I really like both of the products and wanted to share my thoughts with you. As always I review things with a sensible, impartial approach and I only give honest reviews. First I'll tell you a little about Aveeno and then I'll talk about the two things I tried.

The makers of Aveeno have captured the benefits of naturally active ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal and shea butter, in products specially formulated to give you beautiful, soft and healthy-looking skin.

Over half of British women suffer from dry skin which is often made worse by the harsh conditions of winter weather. The Aveeno range is suitable for the management of dry skin and is also suitable for people who may be prone to eczema, and provides an effective way of undoing winter weather damage.

Aveeno uses naturally active ingredients from nature which are proven to benefit the skin. Oats have long been known for being absorptive and hypoallergenic, whilst softening, cleansing and soothing the skin. In 1945 scientific advances made way for the fine milling of oatmeal into "colloidal oatmeal". This allows oatmeal to retain its naturally active benefits, which include:

* Moisturising skin: Oat proteins leave a protective barrier on the skin, which prevents water loss to help maintain moisture.
* Cleansing dry skin: Oats are naturally absorptive and when in powder form, act like tiny sponges to withdraw dirt and dead skin cells so they can be rinsed away.
* Soothing dry, irritated skin: Colloidal oatmeal has been clinically proven to relieve dry skin and associated itching.

I was sent the Moisturising Creamy Oil and the Hand Cream. Both claim to be non greasy which I 100% agree with.

The Moisturising Creamy Oil is meant to moisturise like an oil but absorb like a cream. I LOVE this stuff. I have been applying it like crazy because I have been so impressed with the formula and the results. The product itself is quite runny but, as claimed, it absorbs like a cream and leaves my skin feeling really moisturised with absolutely no stickiness. It also leaves behind a lovely scent - it contains sweet almond oil. I can definitely smell the almond and the oatmeal too - such a nice smell but not too overpowering.

The Hand Cream claims to moisturise for 24 hours and lasts through hand washing. This is a lovely hand cream which is super moisturising without leaving any greasy feeling behind. It has a lovely oatmeal smell to it but there's no almond oil so the body lotion is my favourite out of the two - I could sniff it all day long!

I have wanted to try Aveeno products for a while now ever since my Mum tried one of the face creams on holiday in the US and loved it - but it isn't available in the UK so she has to rely on Ebay to get her hands on it. I'm really glad I got to try the brand and I would definitely purchase more products in the future.

For more info visit the Aveeno website HERE, the Facebook page HERE or become an Aveeno Discoverer by clicking HERE.

Aveeno is sold at Boots stores.

The truth about tanning...

Last night I watched a programme on BBC Three called The Truth About Tanning which was fronted by Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud fame. Now I know she isn't the most popular or in some people's eyes not the most attractive member of the group but I really enjoyed this programme and I thought Nicola came across as a really genuine, kind and intelligent person. In my opinion she's the most stylish member of Girls Aloud - she always looks fabulous! Plus she manages to get the most amazing volume in her hair! (jealous)

The programme mainly highlighted the dangers of using sunbeds. I hold my hands up to using sunbeds in the past - usually just sporadically before a holiday a couple of times a week. I haven't used one for over a year now and I don't think I would ever use one again. They're not worth the risk and with the choices of fake tan out there it's so easy to fake it! Saying that I actually haven't used fake tan is over 6 months but I do like to use it before nights out occasionally and I enjoy tanning on holiday safely by regular applying sun cream. I tan very easily and don't burn which I'm grateful for, but this doesn't mean I'm not at risk of developing skin cancer. The family of a girl who had dark hair and olive skin talked about her battle with skin cancer and unfortunately she did not survive it.

The programme also showed Nicola talking to self-confessed "tanorexics". One of the young girls who was about 16 was addicted to tanning and would use sunbeds every single day and in all honesty she looked older than me. She did say at the end she had stopped using them and I really hope so because I dread to think how old she will look in 10 years time. And don't even get me started on the guy using tanning injections.... he not only injected himself but he also took tanning pills, used fake tan and used SEVERAL different tanning shops every day because the maximum time per shop was not enough for him (most shops only let you go on once every 24 hours). He needs rehab surely!

I like having a tan as much as the next girlie but surely it's not worth going to such extreme lengths. I know I will be sticking to faking it from now on!

If you missed it and want to watch then click HERE to go to BBC iPlayer.

Birthday treats

As some of you know it was my birthday yesterday! I am now 25.. scary stuff. I still feel 19. (That was a nice age, I'd like to go back there please!) Anyway I'm not big on celebrating my birthday so it was just like any other day except we had chinese for tea and  more cake than usual :)

I mainly got money this year along with lots of Topshop vouchers which added up nicely, H&M vouchers, Benefit Bad Gal mascara in brown, flowers, wine, home-made cake, a dancing game for the Wii, and some other bits and bobs. My best friend got me the cutest cook book full of cake recipes so I'm going to go all Nigella on you at some point soon.

I have spent a couple of my vouchers already. I bought an Eiffel Tower print t shirt (£22) and a floral print button up cardigan (£35) - both Topshop.

The t shirt detailing is so cute don't you think? And I'm a sucker for anything with a floral pattern! Topshop had lots of nice things in actually. It has been a while since I've been shopping as I hate the sales and I had enough new things for Christmas. But seriously, vouchers just burn a hole in my pocket - I have to spend them! I spotted some really nice jewellery that I might go back for.

My Mum's cake was lovely; we all had a slice with a cup of tea.

You can see my family like Moonpig cards can't you! Check out my R Patz card from my Sister. The new Katie and Peter?? Damn right! And I have a slight Baby Ruth obsession whenever I go to America in case you wondered :) This card cracks me up every time I look at it - check out his face!
